Own Your Future Challenge Video Pro-Tips

So … the idea of winning $10k sounds pretty great, right? We’re excited, too. Whether you record a video at an #OwnYourFuture event, or if you make your own at home, here are a few tips:

1. Keep our rules in mind.

  • Make sure the person filling out the form is 18 yrs or older, and is present in the video.
  • Keep your video under a minute in length.
  • Make sure you reside in one of the following states: AL, AK, AZ, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, MN, MO, ND, NV, OK, OR, TN, WA, or WI.

2. Don't forget to answer both questions in your video clip.

  • How would you spend $5,000 to help your favorite local school own its future?
  • How would you spend $5,000 to help you and your family own your future?

The winner of the Challenge will get $5,000 for their school and another $5,000 for their family.

3.    Worry less about production value, and focus more on the “how” and “why” you’d use this money.

The Own Your Future Challenge Committee will review the videos of our six finalists and decide who is our lucky winner. While there’s nothing wrong with creating an elaborate video, please know that’s not the difference maker in winning or losing. The Committee is looking for heartfelt, honest stories from people who would put the $10,000 to great use for their family and school. So make sure your video digs into the “how” and “why” your family and school should get the $10,000. For all you aspiring videographers out there … if you can develop something great … we’d love to see it.

4.    Make sure you’re recording your video in one of our approved formats.

Be sure you’ve recorded it in either AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, MPEG, FLV, 3GP, and 3G2. Maximum file size is 300 megabytes.

5.    Start thinking about your promotional strategy now.

When the voting period opens up on 07/27/2016, the videos that earn the most votes advance to the final round of the Own Your Future Challenge. Start coming up with unique ideas now!
